Design considerations for robotically assembled through-tenon timber joints

چکیده

Abstract This research investigates the robotic assembly of timber structures connected by wood–wood connections. As digitization construction sector progresses, digital tools, such as industrial arms and Computer Numerical Control machines, are becoming increasingly accessible. The new-found ease with which wood can be processed stimulates a renewed interest in traditional joinery, where pieces simply interlocked instead being additional metallic parts. Previous established computational workflow for plate paper focuses on determining physical conditions that allow inserting through-tenon joints robot. main challenge lies minimizing clearance between tenon mortise order to keep connections tight possible. An experimental protocol has, therefore, been developed quantitatively assess performance insertion according different geometric parameters. Robotic tests have carried out over 50 samples 39 mm Laminated Veneer Lumber. Results showed tapering joint 5 degrees angle, addition introducing an offset 0.05 mm, minimize friction forces during insertion. configuration was confirmed successfully assembling 2,50 m long box girder same

Withdrawal, shear, and bending moment capacities of round mortise and tenon timber framing joints

Many forest stands in this country as well as in numerous underdeveloped countries, are overstocked with small-diameter trees (Wolfe 2000, Wolfe and Moseley 2000). These trees pose both a health hazard and a fire hazard to the forests, and excess stems should be removed, but presently they have too little market value to justify their removal. Before these stems are utilized, value-added produc...

Bolted Timber Joints with Self-tapping Screws

The use of self-tapping screws with continuous threads in the joint area as a reinforcement to avoid splitting of timber members is studied. A theoretical model is developed to calculate the stress distribution around a pin-loaded hole in a timber joint, to predict brittle failure modes in bolted connections and to calculate the load in the reinforcing screws. Laboratory experiments on reinforc...

3-D RF Coil Design Considerations for MRI

High-frequency coils are widely used in medical applications, such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) systems. A typical medical MRI includes a local radio frequency transmit/receive coil. This coil is designed for maximum energy transfer or wave transfer through magnetic resonance. Mutual inductance is a dynamic parameter that determines the energy quantity to be transferred wirelessly by ele...
